With defence spending growing, we have opportunities across the board and recently have been approached to support a key client for a CAV technician to aid in maintenance and inspection of civilian Armoured Vehicles electronics and security systems for various national and international government bodies.
Role is a long-term contract with high chance of extension with an awesome option to travel across the globe. Must have a DFAT NV2 or above due to the nature and sensitivity of the environment and work.

Role: CAV Technical Officer x2 positions

Contract period: 12 months with possible 12 months extension.

Responsibilities:

  • EACS and Type 1A system support to the DFAT network.
  • EACS and Type 1A system maintenance and enhancement activities at DFAT domestic sites.
  • Technical advice to design teams undertaking refit activities.
  • Site surveys to document maintenance or upgrade requirements for all security infrastructure (including alarms, access control, CCTV, and public screening equipment).
  • Pre-installation or pre-maintenance activities in Canberra (communications, installation planning, hardware procurement, logistics and freight etc.).
  • Stakeholder engagement to assist with planning and completion of system installation or maintenance.
  • Support installers to complete electronic security system (EACS, Type 1A, CCTV etc) installation, maintenance, programming and commissioning in line with DFAT requirements.
  • Train and support staff to use electronic security systems.
  • Update site plans, as-builts, technical drawings, and other installation and training documentation.
  • Work under limited supervision, including planning, prioritising, and organising work for self to achieve deadlines.
  • Other duties as required by the Director, Branch or associated Project Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Gallagher programming experience.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in adverse or high stress environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in installing and maintaining EACS, Type 1/1A equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs) for system integration.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards (AS/NZS, ISO).
  • Open Cabling Registration with Fibre and Structured Cabling Endorsement
  • Gallagher certification for EACS and T1 A standard and privileged user

  • Working in Confined Spaces
  • Asbestos Awareness Certification
  • First Aid
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites

Desirable

Previous experience in:

  • Installation, programming, and maintenance of Type 1/1A Alarm Systems, including Gallagher Type 1A accreditation.
  • Installation, programming, and maintenance of Electronic Access Control Solutions, including Gallagher Access Technician accreditation.

Requirement to Travel

  • Domestic travel will be required. Overseas Travel may be required. Please Note:
  • Specified Personnel must meet the requirements to gain any required visas.
  • Specified Personnel must agree to undertake COVID tests as required (within Australia and overseas) and conform to the vaccination requirements for travel outside of Australia.
  • Specified Personnel need to be aware of, and if they agree to travel, accept:
    • increased health risks.
    • increased travel restrictions.
    • increased likelihood of travel disruptions.
    • potential periods of mandatory self-isolation and quarantine.
    • extended periods spent away from home and family.
    • electronic tracing mechanisms, including phone apps.
    • mandatory COVID-19 tests; and
    • public health measures that are more severe than in Australia.
    • All travel will be arranged by DFAT, and expenses will be covered by DFAT at DFAT’s non-SES rates in accordance with the DFAT Travel Policy.

Security Clearance

  • The Specified Personnel must hold a DFAT recognised Security Clearance level of Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) or higher.
